Fine Pewter is a lead –free alloy that consists mainly of tin and is combined with a small portion of other metals such as copper, antimony, bismuth or silver. It is a relatively soft metal, which does not tarnish or rust, but does age gracefully taking on grayish / charcoal patina of Old World antique charm.
argaiv1735 The care of your pewter depends upon the appearance you prefer. For all pewter, no matter the finish, hand wash the pieces in warm water using mild soap (no abrasive cleaners) and dry with a soft cloth. Polished pewter may also be polished once or twice a year with a metal polish (do not use silver polish). Antique pewter (oxidized) is virtually maintenance free and does not require any additional care beyond occasional hand washing. Due to the low melting point of pewter, do not place pewter over open flames, on hot plates or into the oven. Also, do not place pewter into the dishwasher for cleaning as the soaps and heat may damage the piece. And, be cautious of citric acids, as these acids may stain your pewter over an extended period of time.
